Dr. M. I. Patel donates CHARUSAT an enormous amount of Rs. 4 Crores

Dr. M I Patel, a Native of Uttarsanda – a village of Charotar and Former Sheriff of Mumbai has announced to donate an enormous amount of Rs. 4 Crores to Charotar University of Science and Technology, CHARUSAT based at Changa. He has promised the amount for MCA Institute – Charotar Institute of Computer Applications and for the establishment of CHARUSAT Hospital.

Basically, a son of an humble farmer family, Dr. Mohan Patel has had his engineering education from London, UK. He had simultaneously started looking at other fields and areas of development and his interest moved into Engineering and Technical Development, Education and Social Service, Farming and Rural Development, Establishment and Administration of Public Institutions. Today, an industrialist of repute, Dr. Patel is known for his invention of Aluminium Ophthalmic Nozzle Tube – First ever invention in the World. Dr. Patel has also been the Chairman of the Western Regional Committee of the All India Council for Technical Education, a statutory body under the Ministry of Human Resources Development. Moreover, he is also known as a creative writer and a translator and also has his association with many a institutes and organizations of National and International repute.

Dr. Patel has, infact, had a very long association with Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Patidar Kelavani Mandal – the Trust that initiated the establishment of CHARUSAT. He happened to be a very close associate of Late Shri Chhotabhai Bhikhabhai Patel – the Founder President of Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Patidar Kelavani Mandal. He blessed the Centenary Celebrations of Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Leuva Patidar Samaj – Matrusanstha as the Chief Guest. And even before the establishment of CHARUSAT, he was very closely associated with Education Campus Changa. He used to be a Member of Board of Management for institutes at Changa Campus. He has also graced the Inauguration of the First Academic Session of Charotar Institute of Computer Application – the MCA Institute on CHARUSAT Campus as the Chief Guest. It is no wrong saying that Dr. Patel has really witnessed every step of development at CHARUSAT Campus. He not only felicitated the Khatmuhurt Ceremony of the Healthcare Education and Delivery Project of CHARUSAT gracing it as a Guest of Honour but also accelerated the same by donating handsome amount of Rs. 11 Lacs. And today on the First Foundation Day of CHARUSAT, in the Governing Body Meet he has made this announcement. He has promised Rs. 3 Crores for the Nomenclature of Charotar Institute of Computer Applications and Rs. 1 Crore for the Proposed CHARUSAT Hospital. The commitment was pronounced in the Meeting Chaired by Shri Surendra Patel, President, CHARUSAT and in the presence of dignitaries like Shri Pankaj Patel, CMD, Zydus Cadila Healthcare Ltd; Dr. Manoj Soni, Vice Chancellor, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University; Shri Hemal Patel, CEO, Elitecore Technologies; Dr. M C Patel, Provost, CHARUSAT; Prin. B I Patel. Vice President, Kelavani Mandal, and Dr. S P Kosta, Advisor, CHARUSAT. The Hospital is planned as the first major leap in the Healthcare Delivery Sector which will, finally, be a 750 bed hi-tech hospital.

“I have not bestowed the donation; infact, the Institute has earned it through its good work for the society. And I am lucky that the Institute is accepting my contribution.” said Dr. Patel when CHARUSAT and Kelavani Mandal executives expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards his generosity and philanthropy. Dr. Patel expressed his sense of satisfaction and appreciation for CHARUSAT and the people involved in the development. The development at Changa Campus started in 2000 and today in a very short span of 10 years it is a university offering more than 27 UG, PG, M Phil and Ph D programs in Engineering, Pharmacy, Computer Applications, Management, Applied Sciences, Nursing and Physiotherapy. In all, around 3500 students are taking education at CHARUSAT Campus and it has a capital outlay of Rs. 65 crores.
